In massive crackdown, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested five directors, two deputy directors and other three officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA) for their alleged involvement in setting up illegal slum in capital.
FIA official said that following the directives by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the agency launched an inquiry against CDA officials who helped in establishing illegal settlements in the city. He said that Interior Minister issued directives in September when CDA bulldozed I/11 slum, which was the largest in Islamabad.
The agency conducted an inquiry and inquired both serving and retired officials of enforcement and planning wings and other concerned directorates of the authority about the settlement of illegal slums. "The authority recorded the statement of several CDA officials on the issue", he said, adding that the officials arrested by the agency were held responsible for the establishment of illegal settlement.
FIA official further said that the agency following detail inquiry arrested Riaz Ahmad, Director Enforcement, Azhar Khursheed, Director Enforcement, Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, Director Enforcement, Ramaz Joya, Director Enforcement, Naveedul Haq, Director Enforcement and Shehbaz, Director Enforcement, for their alleged involvement in setting up of illegal settlement. FIA official said that the agency also arrested Abdul Latif, Deputy Director, Muhammad Ataullah, Deputy Director Enforcement and Abdul Jabbar, Assistant Director. FIA also arrested Inspector Shahid Iqbal and Muhammad Iqbal, supervisor in this connection, he said. FIA will produce the arrested officials before the court on Wednesday (today).
