Partly Facetious: None of them pays income tax!

04 Nov, 2015

"An American by the name of Irwin Schiff stopped paying federal income tax from 1974 onwards by arguing that it was unconstitutional."
"And was in jail for 17 years... he wasn't as savvy as our politicians, was he? Our politicians have passed a constitution that makes it unconstitutional for them to pay tax?"
"How is that possible?"
"Two-thirds of our politicians in the national and provincial assemblies do not pay income tax as their source of income is agriculture and farm income is exempt from income tax as per our constitution."
"Oh I see, but if they pay tax on their net income and by that I mean take away all the cost of their inputs and..."
"Even then their income is exempt my friend. And the constitution allows it."
"The ponytailed Raza Rabbani-led 18th Constitutional Amendment didn't deal with this? I mean it dealt with so much and..."
"Nah, and that's because Raza Rabbani didn't have a ponytail at that time."
"Are you being facetious?"
"No, I have a theory: a ponytail is usually associated with a girl of under 10 years, innocent and sweet and if a grown man grows a ponytail, he wants to go back to the age of innocence."
"Oh, stop being so facetious, Raza Rabbani, ponytail or not, is not likely to go against the dictates of his party leader, whatever his education level, however flawed his appointments, however long he stays out of the country...RRs appointment is courtesy Asif Ali Zardari and..."
"I always thought RR stands for Rolls Royce."
"It does in this case too, only it's a Pakistani Rolls Royce"
"Which means?"
"It means that it's a copy and a copy implies little initiative."
"I get it! I mean that explains the pony tail! Contrariness between reality and perception..."
"There you go! And that should explain the findings of the perception indexes."
