A young street vendor in Gabon who set himself on fire after police confiscated his goods has died of his injuries after suffering for nearly a week, a newspaper reported Saturday. Berenger Obame Ntoutoume, 28, self-immolated on Sunday at a local police station after policemen refused to return the second-hand clothes he was selling. It was the first known case of self-immolation in oil-rich Gabon, which has acute levels of poverty despite its wealth of natural resources.
