The Karachi Port handled 313,031 tonnes of cargo comprising 247,231 tonnes of import cargo and 65,800 tonnes of export cargo including 6,540 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 247,231 tonnes comprised of 95,988 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,787 tonnes of general cargo; 48,067 tonnes of bulk cargo: 10,373 tonnes of coal; 22,280 tonnes of DAP; 5,230 tonnes of SB meal; 10,184 tonnes of canola and 93,389 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 65,800 tonnes comprised of 50,139 tonnes of containerised cargo; 15,198 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,994 tonnes of cement; 13,204 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 463 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,540 containers comprising of 4,091 containers import and 2,449 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,508 of 20's and 1,213 of 40's loaded while 85 of 20's and 36 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,074 of 20's and 352 of 40's loaded containers while 153 of 20's and 259 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were nine ships namely Hyundai General, A Idefix, Al Abdali, UAFL Zanzibar, DL Ace, Delice, Combi Dock-1, Mohar and Santa Phoenix carrying containers, oil tankers, vehicle, cement and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were eight vessels viz. X-Press Euphrates, UAFL Zanzibar, KMTC Mumbai, MT Lahore, Torm Aslaug, Euro Strength, Zhen Hua-15 and Arundel Castle carrying containers, oil tankers, heavy lift and general cargo respectively currently at the berths. There were five ships namely APL Pearl, KMTC Mumbai, MT Lahore, Torm Aslaug and Inuyama carrying containers, oil tankers and steel respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while another ship namely Euro Strength carrying oil tanker is expected to sail on Tuesday.
There were seven vessels viz. Sima Prestige, ACX Crystal, Shalamar, United Star, Uzava, Inuyama and Fortune Sun carrying containers, oil tankers, mogas and steel respectively due to arrive on Monday, while five vessels viz. YM Excellence, Stolt Viking, Saehan Estrella, DL Violet and Common Faith carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and coal respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
