A joint team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Benazir Income Support Programme have raided various locations in Okara, arresting three men following a string of complaints against using the unauthorised programme cards to cash substantial sums from poor women's accounts. The action came following a request by the Benazir Income Support Programme and also on a complaint received from the women in Okara.
The Benazir Income Support Programme frequently carries out operations to stop fraud. It recently introduced BDC activation through biometric verification of the beneficiaries to ensure transparency in the payment delivery system. The programme is committed to establishing robust systems to curtail the middle-man culture and helping women beneficiaries in accessing their cash transfer.
The programme's regional directorate general in the Punjab has advised women to submit information and complaints of fraudulent activities to concerned divisional directors. The beneficiaries can also approach the Benazir Income Support Programme tehsil offices and the regional office or the headquarters in Islamabad.
