19 Nov, 2015

The Department of Food Sciences and Human Nutrition of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Lahore and the Punjab Enabling Environment Project organised a one-day training workshop on "data collection for assessment of loose milk supply to Lahore city" on Wednesday. The workshop is a step towards development of a formal dairy sector to regulate the sale of milk, which is minimally pasteurised and safe for consumers throughout the Punjab.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Doctor Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the workshop. Punjab Food Authority Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz, Dr Muhammad Nasir and researchers from academic institution and representatives from the public and private dairy sectors were also present.
The VC said in a speech, "Loose milk is causing serious food safety issues. So, we need to develop and maintain a formal minimally-pasteurised milk supply chain. Under this project, the university will focus on Lahore to propose an implantable model for availability/supply of safe milk, which afterwards can be replicated in other districts of the Punjab."
