The Karachi Port handled 149,202 tonnes of cargo comprising 106,867 tonnes of import cargo and 42,335 tonnes of export cargo including 3,750 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 106,867 tonnes comprised of 67,282 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,235 tonnes of general cargo; 23,602 tonnes of bulk cargo: 7,200 tonnes of coal; 12,887 tonnes of DAP; 2,915 tonnes of SB meal and 13,348 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 42,335 tonnes comprised of 35,367 tonnes of containerised cargo and 518 tonnes of general cargo and 6,450 tonnes of iron powder. As many as 3,750 containers comprising of 2,145 containers import and 1,605 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. The break-up of imported containers shows 651 of 20's and 722 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 25 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 483 of 20's and 160 of 40's loaded containers while 138 of 20's and 332 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were two ships namely Ever Radiant and Le Li carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. Batam Trader, Hyundai Colombo and Navios Arc carrying containers and coal respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Uni Premier, SCF Yenisei and Stolt Viking carrying containers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea on Friday while two ships namely Northern Power and Cosco Osaka carrying containers respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
There were three vessels viz. Oriental Freesia, Pan Crocus and Noble Coral carrying chemical and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Friday while five vessels viz. APL Cyprine, X-Press Euphrates, Sand Piper, Gloral Genesis and Athena Triumpr carrying containers, steel and general cargo respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
