Drive against gender-based violence launched in Punjab

Punjab Commission on Status of Women and the White Ribbon Campaign have launched the 16 days campaign against gender-based violence across the province to raise public awareness on women's rights and strengthen support mechanism for victims of violence. The campaign includes marking of White Ribbon Day for elimination of violence against women, awareness activities across nine divisions of the Punjab, media campaign, outdoor messaging and much more.
Provincial Minister for Women's Development Hameeda Waheed Uddin, Punjab Commission on the Status of Women Chairperson Fauzia Viqar and White Ribbon Chief Executive Omer Aftab spoke to media at the launch of the campaign. The minister re-affirmed commitment of the Punjab government to ensure a life of dignity and justice for women. Referring to steps taken by the government recently, she mentioned about women's protection and empowerment being a key priority of the government of Punjab.
Chairperson Viqar said the commission is taking active steps to promote awareness of women's rights and providing support to women complainants and praised the support provided by provincial government departments and district administrations in implementing the Punjab Women's Empowerment Package. Chief Executive Aftab said, "This year's campaign is focused on legal literacy of women and promotion of men's role in ending violence against women."
