National exchequer has to face losses of billions of rupees due to slackness and poor performance of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) during last one decade. According to sources of Federal Ministry of Water and Power, IESCO had to recover pending amounts of Rs 35.47 billion from 57,680 defaulters but it had failed to recover the said amount from the electricity consumers despite a passage of 10 years.
Though IESCO disconnected power connections of 14,998 defaulters but its overall performance remained unsatisfactory rendering billions of rupees losses to national exchequer.
Due to inefficiency of IESCO officials, the government had to depend on Chinese investment and loans from various international countries to overcome the energy crisis which was a matter of grave concern.
Sources said that some of the parliamentarians were also among the electricity defaulters in addition to many government departments.
