Cheap hydel power: KP concentrating on production: Minister

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Energy and Power, Mohammad Atif Khan has said that solar energy is simple, better and cheap source of producing electricity. However, he said that due to available hydel potentials of producing cheap electricity the provincial government is concentrating on production of hydel power. He expressed these views while presiding over a briefing on solar energy arranged under the auspices of Seigal Company here Thursday. Besides, Secretary Energy and Power and other concerned authorities of the sector were also present on the occasion.
He further said that work is in progress and several hydel power projects while several more are under consideration. He said that along these projects, the full utilisation of solar energy is also under serious consideration of the government. The company chief besides speaking on the importance and utility of solar energy also highlighted other activities in this regard.
The provincial minister for energy and power said that KPK is generating cheap electricity for the whole country while centre is providing on exorbitant prices to the people. He said that due to the control of federal govt on generation and distribution system of electricity, the province is not receiving its due share in power quota. He said that due to unawareness, the general public is targeting govt of KPK for this injustice and cruelty of the federal govt.
He said that the provincial govt is planning for generating maximum hydel power to get the people of the province rid of unjustified loadshedding and excessive power bills. He said that they are not unaware of the importance of solar energy and for its utilisation the provincial govt will soon evolve a feasible strategy.
