All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has urged the Commerce Ministry to impose regulatory duty on synthetic yarn. A delegation of APTMA met with Commerce Minister Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan and apprised him of the issues being faced by the textile industry. An official told Business Recorder that APTMA delegation repeated the issues which were raised with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a couple of months ago. The government had agreed to announce a textile package for the struggling industry but the plan was shelved after the IMF opposed it.
APTMA's representatives on Thursday informed the Commerce Ministry that since the government has imposed regulatory duty on cotton yarn recently, RD on synthetic yarn should also be imposed to protect the local industry. The Commerce Ministry is expected to move a summary to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet to sort out the issue.
