Chehlum observed with reverence

04 Dec, 2015

Thousands of mourners Thursday rallied to observe the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) amid airtight security in the city. The Chehlum procession started off from Numaish Chowrangi and gradually passed through M A Jinnah Road to culminate at Imambargah Hussainia Irania in Kharadar at the sunset.
After the Zohr prayers at Imambargah Ali Raza, participants including women, children, youth and aged clad in black attire started the procession. Mourning the deaths of Karbala's historic battle, the participants were holding flags in their hands inscribed with religious verses.
They beat their chests to show their grief for the victims of Karbala. Heavy security was deployed around the processions' routes. A large number of Rangers were also deployed on M A Jinnah Road to maintain security. The LEAs closed a number of roads to provide security to thousands of participants in the Chehlum procession. Scores of containers were put to block the link and main roads around M A Jinnah Road. The organisers of the main procession had set up roadside camps and stalls to facilitate the participants. Markets on the main procession route including the country's largest wholesale grain market stayed closed.
