Peace, connectivity and enhanced trade can transform South Asia into a flash point of world development within next decade, said Syed Muhammad Asim Shah, Chairman, All Pakistan Bed sheets and Upholstery Manufacturers Association (APBUMA). Addressing a get together here on Friday, he termed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as game changer for the region which would provide the shortest land route to the land locked areas of China and Central Asia with rest of the world.
"However, peace is also necessary to restore the confidence of the regional countries, and in this connection the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) is already making sincere efforts and bring the regional countries closer to each other," he added.
He appreciated the contribution of Mian Muhamad Idrees who had been working round the clock for the success of the economic revival plan adopted by this apex trade body last year. He stressed the need for the continuity of the existing efforts and said the business community should give yet another chance to united business group to accomplish its agenda for the progress of Pakistan through professional institutionalisation of FPCCI.
Muhammad Nabeed Saeed, Senior Vice Chairman, APBUMA, said that international recession coupled with high cost of inputs and in the absence of textile minister the entire textile sector was deprived of its rights and its exports were continuously declining for the last five months. He hoped that the nominated candidate of the United Business Group would make a clean sweep during the upcoming elections because of the excellent performance of the existing office-bearers of FPCCI.
