12 Dec, 2015

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Irrigation and Social Welfare Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao said on Friday that the matter of constructing the multi-purpose Munda Dam Hydro Power Project on river swat would be taken up with the federal government at the earliest as this project on completion besides generating 740 megawatts cheap electricity would also irrigate as many as 15000 acres of land and help control floods in the Charsadda, Peshawar and Nowshera districts.
Addressing a public meeting at Sherpao, Charsadda district, the Senior Minister termed the imposition of new taxes by the central government on the poor masses as totally unjustified and uncalled for as they were already reeling under great duress due to the exorbitant hike in the prices of essential commodities. He asked the central government to withdraw the decision and also give full autonomy to the provinces in line with the 18th amendment so that the respective provincial governments could take solid measures for the welfare of the masses.
Sikandar Sherpao said serving the poor masses selflessly as well as securing and safeguarding the provincial rights is the epicenter of our politics and we will never compromise in this regard. He said practical measures are being taken to address the public problems as well as put the province on the track to speedy progress and prosperity as the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have suffered a lot due to militancy as well as natural calamities.
