The Joint Action Committee of PIA Employees (JACPIAE) on Tuesday threatened to suspend all operations for 24 hours, if the management did not annul its privatisation plan. The committee announced to stage a protest on daily basis till the acceptance of its demand. The protesters, who were raising placards and banners, chanted slogans against the privatisation of PIA and the Presidential Ordinance to convert Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (PIAC) from a statutory corporation to a company governed under the Companies Ordinance, 1984.
The representatives of JACPIAE demanded the authority concerned to annul the Presidential Ordinance immediately, otherwise, they would suspend all PIA operations for 24 hours. "As stakeholders of the Airline, we should have been taken on board before this decision, which has been taken at the time when the Airline has started progressing and earning operational profits," they lamented.
