The Karachi Port handled 164,430 tonnes of cargo comprising 126,395 tonnes of import cargo and 38,035 tonnes of export cargo including 5,894 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 126,395 tonnes comprised of 30,445 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,477 tonnes of general cargo; 23,952 tonnes of bulk cargo: 10,200 tonnes of coal; 4,152 tonnes of steel scrap; 9,600 tonnes of rock phosphate and 60,521 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 38,035 tonnes comprised of 28,703 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,702 tonnes of rice and 2,630 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,894 containers comprising of 2,410 containers import and 3,484 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 600 of 20's and 832 of 40's loaded while 66 of 20's and 40 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 741 of 20's and 457 of 40's loaded containers while 557 of 20's and 636 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were five ships namely APL Agate, Kota Kaya, OEL Dubai, Falcon Grace and Red Jacket carrying containers, oil tanker and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were four vessels viz. ACX Pearl, Kota Kaya, Hammonia Toscana and Everrich-3 carrying containers and oil tanker respectively currently at the berths. There were four ships namely ACX Pearl, MT Quetta, Orient Star and Ismail Deeb carrying containers, oil tankers and rock phosphate respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday while four ships namely Kota Kazim, V Jaeger, Kavala Seas and Dato Success carrying containers, rice, coal and steel respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday.
There were two vessels viz. Corvette and Pacific Merchioness carrying containers and mogas respectively due to arrive on Tuesday while six vessel viz. UAFL Zanzibar, Hyundai Bangkok, Osaka Tower, Positive Pioneer, Sea Merchant and HHL Mississipi carrying containers, vehicles, cement and heavy lift project respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
