Construction of new emergency block in PIC in final stages

Construction of 200-bed new emergency block in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) is in its final stage and the first phase pertaining of 100 beds would expectedly be completed in January and the second phase of remaining 100 beds would be completed in June 2016.
The new angiography machine would also be installed in the new emergency block. Moreover, construction of a 140 beds ward on the first floor of new emergency block is also part of the plan, Medical Superintended of PIC Dr Suhail Saqlain, said here Sunday.
Dr Saqlain said that College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, keeping in view the performance of PIC has recognised the Institution for Fellowship of FCPS in Electrophysiology. He said that PIC has become first Pakistani Health Institution having this unique honour. He said that Chief Minister is paying special attention to improve the performance of PIC and under his directions the Chief executive of PIC and his team is endeavouring hard to resolve the difficulties and provide maximum treatment facilities to the cardiac patients.
Dr Suhail Saqlain further said that foreign trained cardiac surgeons have been deputed in PIC who are doing more than 10 cardiac surgeries on daily bases to reduce the waiting list which is very lengthy.
He further said that special attention is being paid to facilitate the patients and their attendants including provision of wheel-chairs, beds for patients and chairs and drinking water for attendants in waiting area. He said that Reception and Registration Counters have also been set up in emergency to facilitate the patients. Dr Suhail further said that all the machines including angiography and CT angiography have been made functional.
He said that an obsolete model angiography machine which was out of order, has been made functional locally and a new angiography machine which was non-functional for the last one year, has also been made functional.
