Cricket legend and former captain of Pakistan's national cricket team Wasim Akram has signed up with Islamabad United in the capacity of director cricket to train its players for upcoming Pakistan Super Leagues (PSL) T20 2016.
This was announced by Ali Raza Naqvi, owner of the PSL franchise Islamabad United, and Babar Hamid, Country representative for Leonine Global Sports (LGS) here on the eve of unveiling the official team logo "Leo" for Islamabad United.
Naqvi said that Wasim Akram, who is globally acclaimed Pakistani cricketing icon, would be a part of Islamabad United. He said that Wasim Akram would act as strategist of Islamabad United for the upcoming mega cricket event PSL to be played among five teams in February 2016.
He further said that Islamabad Untied would announce its team until Tuesday, adding the team would comprise three senior players, while foreign players and new emerging players will also be part of team.
Babar Hamid, while speaking, said that Wasim Akram brings with him a wealth of cricketing acumen and wisdom as well as a truly international persona to the team which will help LGS mentor and present a formidable team in the upcoming PSLT20 2016.
Though Wasim Akram was not present on the occasion, yet the cricket legend stated in a statement that he was excited that PSL is about to happen and that he was a part of the Islamabad Untied.
"While I wish that all teams perform well, PSL will be all about proving competitive at an international level within Pakistan and in the international arena. I am truly happy to be working with Islamabad city also as it is a city I have always loved," he added.
Former Australian Test cricketer Dean Jones has been appointed as head coach of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United.
