The Bahria University Karachi held its 12th Convocation on Sunday at its campus here. Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, was the chief guest. He conferred degrees on the graduating students of Ph.D.,Postgraduate and Undergraduate programs.
In all, 778 degrees were awarded to the undergraduate and graduate students of Management Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Computer Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences department, Electrical Engineering department, Software Engineering Department and Professional Psychology Department.
Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah alongwith the Rector of Bahria University, Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz (retd) awarded 17 Gold Medals to Nawal Naeem, Hina Farheen, Naila Shabbir, Faleha Farooqi, Sadaf Riaz and Shaheera Haroon from Management Sciences Department; Sana Yasir from Social Sciences Department; Ayesha Waris and Shahzad Usmani from Electrical Engineering Department; Syed Azeem Akhter, Shoaib Malik and Muhammad Usman from Computer Sciences Department; Conrad Walter D'Silva and Ambreen Yousuf Ali from Software Engineering Department and Anam Fatima Sheriff, Syeda Affifah Saud and Syeda Anam Fatimah from Psychology Department.
As many as 11 Silver Medals were also awarded to various students who achieved top positions in their respective programs.
Addressing the occasion, Admiral Zakaullah congratulated the graduating students on their splendid success and lauded Bahria University Karachi Campus for providing exceptional knowledge and skills to the graduated students in their respective disciplines that will enable them to lead a professionally rewarding life.
He said that the role of universities and institutions has gained significant importance to help impart the requisite education and fostering competencies to make them better and productive citizen of Pakistan.
Today, he added, universities need to expand strategic networking with multinational corporations, public and private sectors, and research based institutions.
The underlying theme of the collaborative relationship is to understand each other's needs and equipping the students with contemporary business models to help make them effective at their workplace; both locally and internationally.
He said that new endeavours undertaken by the management of Bahria University with commitment and determination will yield the best results for all the stakeholders and will definitely provide competitive edge to Bahria University to become the leading University of the country.
The chief guest expressed pleasure to see quite a good number of graduates in varied academic disciplines being produced by Bahria University.
He urged the academia to come forward with strong commitment to contribute in the nation-building process.
Earlier, in his welcome address Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz (retd) expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah for his presence in the convocation.
He mentioned efforts of the Bahria University for providing the most conducive academic environment, state-of-the art labs and highly qualified faculty for its postgraduate and undergraduate students.
In the end, Rector of Bahria University congratulated the students and their parents, wishing them a prosperous future and also appreciated the students who achieved medals for the outstanding performance.
