Bail plea of pilot: LHC issues notices to CAA

22 Dec, 2015

A division bench of the Lahore High Court has issued notices to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Sarwar Road police in connection with a bail petition of a Shaheen Airline pilot facing charges of crash-landing under the influence of alcohol.
The flight had made an emergency landing at Allama Iqbal International Airport on November 3, with over 100 people reportedly on board. On Monday, the bench told the prosecution to present a complete record of the case on December 29. His counsel told the bench that his client, Asmat Mahmood, was forced to crash-land his plane because of a faulty landing-gear to save his passengers and denied the allegation that he was drunk. He also suspected the case as being politically motivated to save the real culprits.
