Shares suffered losses at the Lahore Stock Exchange where losers outclassed gainers on Monday. The LSE-25 index fell to 5,353.15 points against 5,377.24 points of last Friday, showing a decline of 24.09 points. Investors are not taking fresh positions ahead of Christmas leaves, resulting in bearish sentiments.
Those who gained were the Soneri Bank Limited, SNGPL, Pakcem Limited, Pace Pakistan Limited and Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim Limited while the losers were the Fauji Fertiliser Company Limited, Pakistan Oil Fields Limited, Byco Petroleum Pakistan Limited, and PICIC Investment Fund, Arif Habib Corporation Limited, K-Electric Limited, the Bank of Punjab Limited and Silkbank Limited (Saudi).
Out of a total of 64 companies, only five showed strength and nine lost, while 50 others stayed unchanged as they were before. The Soneri Bank Limited gained 78 paisas. The SNGPL, Pakcem Limited, while the Pace Pakistan Limited and Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim Limited were up by 41, 30, 20 and 5 paisas.
The Fauji Fertiliser Company Limited shed Rs 1.45 and the Pakistan Oil Fields Limited lost Rs 1.41. The Byco Petroleum Limited declined by 25 paisas. The PICIC Investment Fund, Arif Habib Corporation Limited, K-Electric Limited, the Bank of Punjab Limited and Silkbank Limited (Saudi) were down by 25, 19, 5, 4 and 3 paisas. The volume leader of the day was the Gharibwal Cement Company Limited with 1,500,000 shares followed by the Silkbank Limited (Saudi) with 501,000 and the Bank of Punjab Limited with 129,000.
