Standing Committee on Defence Production meets

The Standing Committee on Defence Production met here under the Chairmanship of Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, MNA regarding briefing on seminar arranged by Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) on Public-Private Partnership in Defence Production & Export Challenges and way forward.
The committee members were apprised by Director General Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) with regard to Public-Private Partnership and its aim. He said that an interactive academic platform for exchange of views to the potential of private sector in defence production and export was arranged by DEPO. He further stated that such kind of seminars would be provided comprehensive guidelines for improving defence, Research and Development capabilities.
The Committee was informed by Air Cdre Aftab A Khan, Director, DEPO regarding plenary sessions held on 2nd & 3rd December, 2003 on different issues such as role of science and technology, relations for promotion of development, capacity and potential of private sector and Turkish model for public private partnership in defence production. The Committee appreciated efforts done by MODP and DEPO management for holding the seminar.
The Committee Members were further informed by Director, DEPO that mostly speakers and participants were of the view that definition and clarity of national vision should be developed and unambiguously articulated, must be followed by workable implementation plan, specially long term policies for defence industries.
The Committee recommended that necessary proposed legislation by the speakers and participants of seminar may be furnished through MODP to this Committee for legislation in this regard. The committee also recommended that website of requirement about the arms Industries should be launched by MODP and DEPO to provide proper awareness in private sector for encouraging them. -PR
