Mega transport projects to help overcome transport problems: minister

Minister for Irrigation Punjab Muhammad Yawar Zaman said on Thursday that in order to provide excellent transportation facilities to the people government of Punjab has started mega projects like Metro and Orange line. He was addressing the symposium on "Means of Transportation-Present and Future" organised by Pakistan Engineering Congress in connection with t 73rd Annual Session of the Congress.
He also said that orange line project would generate economic activity with new opportunities for skilled and unskilled manpower. Mainly, the traffic congestion on the roads will be reduced and traffic flow will become smooth after completion of the Orange Line Project.
He said Pakistan China Economic Corridor (CPEC) would open new avenues of progress and prosperity in the region. Regarding the issue of implementation of five tier service structure and time scale promotion of the engineers Yawar said that he will try its best to solve the longstanding demand of the engineers. Speaking on the occasion President Pakistan Engineering Congress Engineer Iftikhar Ahmad said that during the 73rd session technical papers covering various important subjects will be presented during the session.
He also said that congress continues to strive and provide opportunities to spread engineering knowledge by discussing engineering issues, new technologies and coming up with recommendations. He said that congress regularly observes World Water Day and World Environment Day in which papers were presented by engineers and technical experts. The purpose of observing these days is to create awareness among the masses about these vital resources and their conservation. He said that the scholarship program of the Pakistan Engineering Congress was launched in 2005-2006. It is a unique program under which 544 scholarships have been to graduate students. In addition 200 scholarships of MS engineering students have been awarded in 2014-2015.
