Baldia factory fire: no arrest made despite spending millions in interrogation

27 Dec, 2015

No arrests have yet been made in the Baldia Town factory fire incident despite the fact that millions have been spent by the Sindh government in investigating the case. Questions have started to rise as three years have passed since the incident happened.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the Baldia Town incident has failed to make any progress to reveal whether the fire was deliberate or accidental. Investigative sources state that the committee has sent the final report to significant government personalities which contain the statements of factory owners Aziz, Shahid and Arshad Bhaila including other workers.
Besides this the report also includes the forensic report of the factory. Even though the report has been forwarded to the authorities, neither a meeting of JIT has been scheduled nor have the higher officials indicated any signs of suspects' detention. It is pertinent to mention here that the main suspects in the case escaped the country after the incident.
Earlier, the JIT went to Dubai on October 4, 2015 where the factory owners stated the reasons behind the fire eruption and informed the team of their concerns and threats posed to their lives. The JIT members include DIG Admin Sultan Khawaja, DIG East Munir Sheikh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pir Muhammad Shah, Sajid Sadozai and other officials of law enforcement agencies.
