Over 53,000 people held under NAP in Punjab: Zaeem

Punjab counter-terrorism force and police have arrested 53,151 persons and registered 48,617 cases under the National Action Plan (NAP) so far, spokesman for Punjab government Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri said here on Sunday. Listing steps taken by the Punjab government for implementing NAP in letter and in spirit, he said the Punjab province is at top of the list, punishments have been made more stringent and fines increased by making amendment in laws for checking terrorism and lawlessness.
Qadri said the process of registration of all the seminaries of the province has been completed. Thousands of persons have been arrested and cases registered by adopting a strict strategy for curbing provocative speeches and literature,
He said a trained counter terrorism force has been set up only in Punjab, special topic has been included in the textbooks for creating public awareness against terrorism, Zaeem Qadri concluded.
