Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party said Governor Salman Taseer sacrificed his life for the protection of the weak and marginalized against exploitation and misuse of the laws of land.
In his message of tributes on the 5th death anniversary of former Punjab Governor, PPP Chairman said from the torture cells of the Lahore Fort to his martyred Shaheed Salman Taseer emerged as a monumental character in the history who lived, struggled and embraced death like a true hero of the nation, democracy and human rights.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pointed out that Salman Taseer followed the path of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and stood like rock against the forces of darkness that were bent upon to drag the country to the stone-age.
These forces of darkness were deliberately created by the dictatorial regimes to trample the nation's quest for democracy, human rights and equality and prolong usurpation of the power of people, he added.
Chairman said that PPP shall always stand against the misuse of religion-based laws by individuals or groups and asked the authorities to take up such misuses for action as per the Point No 9 of the National Action Plan, which reads, "Taking effective steps against religious persecution." He pointed out that so far not a single action has been taken under this key point of NAP.
He further said that entire Pakistan, especially its weaker segments and the members and workers of Pakistan Peoples Party will never forget Salman Taseer.
He will continue to be revered in every heart and mind of the patriotic Pakistanis who always wanted and struggled for a Pakistan truly reflecting the vision of the founders of the nation.
