Eradication of polio: different stakeholders join hands

Federal, provincial governments, world health agencies, political parties and clerics Sunday joined hands for waging a joint battle for the eradication of the crippling disease of polio.
The stakeholders come on one platform against the disease in an awareness seminar against polio organised here under the auspices of Rotary Club Pakistan in Nishtar Hall. Chairman, Anti-Polio Clerics Committee, former federal minister, Mohammad Hanif Tayyab presided over the seminar.
Addressing the awareness seminar, chairman, Rotary Club Pakistan, Abdul Aziz Memon said that battle against deadly disease like polio is the duty of all, adding it would be overcome only with the joining of hands by the people, government and international agencies. The biggest responsibility, in this regard is for the religious clerics to play. He said that the salvation of the coming generations is in strong Pakistan. He said that most of the countries of the world had eradicated the disease and now it is prevailing in only countries and maximum numbers of the patients are either in Pakistan or in Afghanistan. In Pakistan, the disease mostly prevailing in its tribal region, which is due to different hurdles created in the administering of polio drops to the children of the area.
He said that with the support and cooperation of clerics, Pakistan could be turned into a developed, healthy and polio free country.
On this occasion, politicians including Hameedullah Jan (JI), Maulana Iqbal Shah Haidry (JUI-F), Fazal Jameel Rizvi (Jamaat Ahle Sunnat), Alama Abid Hussain Shakiri (Shia cleric), Dr. Shams-ur-Rehman Shams, Abdurauf Rohaila advocate, representatives of United Nations, UNHCR and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government joined hands for carrying joint efforts for the eradication of the polio from the society and expressed confidence that they will soon succeed in their efforts in this regard.
Addressing the seminar, chairman Anti-Polio Clerics Committee, former federal minister Mohammad Hanif Tayyab said that the united efforts of federal, provincial governments, international agencies, clerics, traders and different political parties have joined hands and come on one page, then they will soon succeed in the complete eradication of the polio.
