I would like to compliment the Chairman KPT Vice Admiral Shafqat Jawed under whose leadership the KPT Building has attained 100 years of existence since its construction and inauguration on 5th January 1916. It is, indeed, a great privilege for me to be part of it on this occasion as well. It is all about good maintenance and Karachi Port Trust has done a good job in this regard. Especially, in the wake of high maintenance costs it can be termed as a grand achievement of KPT.
Nations that respect their heritage are the ones to succeed and Pakistan has many heritage buildings and places but none of them are well maintained as is the KPT Building. It has so many features that cannot be explained in this short space. This can only be possible when organisation maintaining such premises can bear heavy financing and hence this reflects on the financial strength of Karachi Port and on the dedication and hard work of its officers and workers / allied staff. I wish the administration of Karachi Port a great success in their endeavours. For, they have the potential to become transhipment hub, and very soon it will be when Pakistan Deep Water Container Port becomes functional. All the best to you KPT.
