Allocation of land to IBA not approved by KU syndicate

The syndicate of University of Karachi has not approved further allocation of land to Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and maintained that the land area occupied by the institute in 1994 would remain unchanged. The syndicate meeting, held Saturday, was presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser. The minutes of the syndicate session held on 19th October 2015 were ratified Saturday.
During the meeting, Moiz Khan was nominated to the Board of Intermediate Education KU as syndicate KU representative for a period of 2 years. Appointment of Professor Tasneem Aslam as Chairman Microbiology was approved. Proposed Leave Rules under Resolution No 7 of the syndicate session held on 19th October 2015 were given approval and the efforts of the Registrar and the staff were lauded. Approval of formation of Karachi University Center of Social Sciences and Humanities was also given and its working paper and feasibility report were asked to be presented in the next meeting of the Faculty.
Appointment of Enquiry Officer to review the case of Assistant Professor Social Work Dr Sabir Michael was given approval. Moreover, the syndicate decided that the employees of the varsity must refer to the relevant forums and authorities to address their grievances while contacting the media in this regard is against the government and university rules, hence it must be strictly avoided otherwise legal actions will be taken against such employees.
In the case of Assistant Professor Pharmacology Dept. Tasneem Mariam Sajid and Assistant Professor Food Science and Technology Faiza Abdul Rab, it was decided to call them to appear before the syndicate. During the last one and a half years, BASR conducted 26 meetings which awarded 1,951 M Phil and 1,124 PhD degrees which proves that the promotion of academic and research culture in KU. As many as 657 cases under KU legal section which were being heard in different courts, verdicts were given in the favour of KU. For the personal library of former VC Professor Dr Jamil Jalbi, setting up of a research library was approved for which KU will provide land and 1 lakh books. Assigned to work employees were reverted to their present grades. Syndicate members lauded the efficiency and honesty of VC Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser while showing full confidence in his leadership and maintained that with his tireless efforts, he is struggling for the upbringing of KU status and its due standing which is highly commendable and bring positive results to help curtail KU financial deficit. The trust of the KU employees has been restored to a greater extent through these measures. Honouring the meritorious services of Sardar Yasin Malik and Haji Hanif Tayyab in their respective fields, the KU syndicate approved the awarding of honorary doctorate degrees to both the dignitaries.
