The Karachi Port handled 148,288 tonnes of cargo comprising 133,039 tonnes of import cargo and 15,249 tonnes of export cargo including 2,378 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 133,039 tonnes comprised of 12,114 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,381 tonnes of general cargo; 28,300 tonnes of coal and 83,244 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 15,249 tonnes comprised of 15,249 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,378 containers comprising of 1,015 containers import and 1,363 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 215 of 20's and 362 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 38 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 392 of 20's and 253 of 40's loaded containers while 9 of 20's and 228 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were three ships namely APL Pearl, Hansa Neuburg and Mu Dan song carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were three vessels viz. Ever Unique, Wieland and AS Orelia carrying containers and oil Tanker respectively currently at the berths. There were four ships namely Batam Trader, Shalamar, AS Orelia and Jin Han carrying containers, oil tankers and steel respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday while another ship namely Ever Unique carrying containers is expected to sail on Thursday. There were four vessels viz. Trader, Hyundai Jakarta, Bahamas, Wan Hai-503, MT Lahore and Golden Convenant carrying containers and oil tankers respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while three vessels viz. Bahamas, Al Mahboobah and Brahman Express carrying containers, chemical and cattle respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
