A newly-born boy was replaced with a dead infant girl at Civil Hospital Karachi, claims a family that blamed the staff of Paediatric Unit-II of the hospital that runs under Sindh Government for it.
The family member and relatives accused the administration of Paediatric Unit-11 of fraudulently replacing the newly-born boy with a dead baby-girl. They demanded justice from high ups of health department.
Ishtiaq, father of the infant told reporters that he had shifted his wife from Orangi Town to Civil Hospital Karachi for delivery case on 5th January where she gave the birth to a baby-boy same day at Gynaecology Unit-II.
"Infant boy was shifted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Paediatric Unit-II due to his critical condition," he said.
The father said that staff of Paediatric Unit-II fraudulently handed over a baby girl's body on 21st January with excuse that baby had expired during treatment due to his critical condition. He said family members tried to meet additional medical superintendent Security Section to tell him actual situation but he had no time for victim family.
Additional Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Abdul Qadir Siddqui, when contacted, said that premature baby girl was born at operation theatre of Gynaecology Department and was instantly shifted to Paediatric Unit-II over her critical condition.
"Operation Theatre's staff mistakenly could not identify her actual sex after birth. The claim of family is wrong and it was due to communication gap between the family and the medical staff," he said.
