The Karachi Port handled 102,046 tonnes of cargo comprising 65,061 tonnes of import cargo and 36,985 tonnes of export cargo including 5,019 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 65,061 tonnes comprised of 28,865 tonnes of containerised cargo; 12,953 tonnes of general cargo; 8,006 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,198 tonnes of coal; 1,297 tonnes of steel scrap; 1,150 tonnes of seed; 1,520 tonnes of canola; 1,841 tonnes of scrap broken part and 15,237 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 36,985 tonnes comprised of 33,999 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,986 tonnes of cement and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,019 containers comprising of 1,685 containers import and 3,334 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,807 of 20's and 985 of 40's loaded while 186 of 20's and 28 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,011 of 20's and 544 of 40's loaded containers while 720 of 20's and 633 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely UAFL Zanzibar, X-Press Euphrates, Hanjin Indigo, Kota Kasturi, Overseas Milos, Bremen Trader, IVS Augusta and Amoy Fortune carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were ten vessels viz. Kota Kasturi, Cape Madrid, Hammonia Toscana, Hansa Neuburg, Cartagena, Bremen Trader, Calmy Coral, Chang Hang Fan, Nelios Triumph and Pacific Pioneer carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There was one ship namely Cape Madrid carrying containers sailed out to sea on Tuesday while two ships namely Hansa Neuburg and Maritina carrying containers and oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Wednesday. There were two vessels viz. Ever Divine and Bunga Laurel carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Tuesday while five vessels viz. MOL Direction, Batam Trader, Hyundai Highness, Agria and Kiran Anatolia carrying containers, coal and steel respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
