Frontier College for Women (FCW) clinched the trophy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) after defeating Government Girls College Pabbi in a marathon encounter on a sudden death penalty shootout played here at University Campus premises on Thursday.
The final match was provided great thrill for the sitting spectators as both Frontier College and Girls College Pabbi played very attacking game. Frontier College for Women took the lead through inside right Anum on the field attempt in the 16th minute. Saba gave a through pass to unmarked Anum who did nothing wrong in dispatching it into the net to make the tally 1-0.
The forwards line of FCW comprising Komal, Noor, Kainat, Anum and Kalsoom played and made some attacking inroads but the Pabbi team defenders and goal-keeper Aysia played well and thwarted as attacks. On the other hands Pabbi Girls College also made some attacks but failed to click as the goal-keeper of FCW Wafa Dil played well and did not allow the rivals forwards to score any goal.
FCW was leading by 1-0 at half-time. It was in the second session in which Girls College Pabbi put in more pressure and it was in the 49th minute when Government Girls College Pabbi leveled the tally 1-1. Till the end of the 70-minute time both the teams were leveled 1-1.
To get certain result of the match both the teams were awarded extra-time but no team could score any goal. After extra-time both were awarded five penalties each but both scored five goals each on penalties and it was the sudden-death penalty shoot-out when Saba slammed in a beautiful goal but Maryum of Pabbi missed the target. Thus FCW won the match by 7-6. Salma Faiz and Roheena supervised the match while Shaista and Nighat acted as field judges. A total of eight teams affiliated with SBBWU took part in the Championship.
