The Karachi Port handled 113,701 tonnes of cargo comprising 88,320 tonnes of import cargo and 25,381 tonnes of export cargo including 5,314 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 88,320 tonnes comprised of 43,559 tonnes of containerised cargo; 723 tonnes of general cargo; 16,830 tonnes of bulk cargo: 8,500 tonnes of coal; 788 tonnes of steel scrap; 1,817 tonnes of seed; 3,128 tonnes of canola; 2,597 tonnes of scrap broken part and 27,208 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 25,381 tonnes comprised of 21,496 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10 tonnes of general cargo; 2,575 tonnes of cement and 1,300 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,314 containers comprising of 2,816 containers import and 2,498 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,026 of 20's and 890 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 5 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 494 of 20's and 346 of 40's loaded containers while 498 of 20's and 407 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were three ships namely Batam Trader, Chang Hang Fan Hai and Pacific Pioneer carrying containers and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were seven vessels viz. MOL Dedication, Northern Genius, Navig8 Strength, Falcon Victory, Bunga Laural, Agria and Lamnalco Aden carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical, coal and tug respectively currently at the berths. There were three ships namely Hammonia Toscana, Ever Divine and Bunga Laurel carrying containers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday while two ships namely A Idefix and JS Comet carrying containers and stone respectively are expected to sail on Friday. There were two vessels viz. A Idefix and APJ Jai carrying containers and steel respectively due to arrive on Thursday while five vessels viz. Sudair, MT Quetta, Sea Fortune, Asia Emerald-III and Ikan Jebuh carrying containers, oil tankers and steel respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
