Urdu as official language: provinces given one month to implement SC order

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted one month's time to federal and provincial governments to implement its order on making Urdu as official language in the country. Resuming the hearing of identical petition filed under Article 184 for making Urdu as official language, a three-member bench led by Justice Mushir Alam observed that earlier all the governments sought three months' time unanimously to make Urdu as official language but no progress have been shown so far.
During the course of proceedings, Additional Advocate General Punjab Razaq A. Mirza withdrew a review petition filed against the court's directives in the current matter, seeking one more month to implement the court's orders in letter and spirit. Seeking implementation report from the federation and all the provinces in the matter, the bench adjourned the hearing of case for a month.
