Implementation of NAP

01 Feb, 2016

This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "PM, others take stock of security situation: Political squabbles won't be allowed to affect operations" carried by the newspaper on Saturday. According to it, a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided that perpetrators and facilitators of heinous acts of killing innocent children in educational institutions will be brought to justice and there will be no let-up in the ongoing operation in Karachi. The meeting reportedly reviewed the overall situation in the country and discussed the progress on implementation of National Action Plan (NAP).
The government is required to speed up work on the implementation of the NAP without any further loss of time. Hence the need for an end to nasty bickings inside and outside parliament. Although, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has clarified his position vis-à-vis the implementation of the NAP, he, too, is required to pull up his socks and lead from the front without any further loss of time. It is true that he is known for his objective and transparent approach to politics. He must, therefore, consider the fuller implementation of NAP as a challenge to his credibility and credentials. Reacting stongly to criticism is no solution.
