ADB offers assistance to KP's power sector

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has offered technical and financial assistance to government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to invest in power sector. Implementation of 356 micro-hydel power projects plan of current provincial government has been hailed and for the first time in Pakistan Result Based Landing (RBL) technology would be introduced in order to complete these projects on fast track basis.
In this context, a high level ADB mission visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for making plan of action to invest in power sector of KP. Foreign mission comprised of Korean, Australian, Vietnamese, Philippines and Pakistani investors led by Program Manager, Adnan Tareen who visited Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO). Secretary Energy & Power, Engr. Naeem Khan was also present.
Chief Executive Officer, PEDO Akbar Ayub Khan briefed the ADB's mission about the ongoing and upcoming planned hydropower projects in KP and informed that provincial government is engaged in implementation of energy action in order to utilise maximum power potential existing in the province. He stated that 356 mini micro hydropower projects are being developed in those areas where people are deprived of blessing of electricity.
ADB mission applauded the PEDO/KP's government plan for the implementation of 356 mini micro hydropower projects and planned to introduce RBL technology in order to complete these projects within shortest time period. Moreover, the bank will also invest for the development of high capacity power projects in the province with the cooperation of PEDO.
Foreign investors' mission hailed the efforts of PEDO's CEO Akbar Ayub khan and planned to invest in power sector in order to pull the country out of dire energy crisis. Meanwhile ADB mission will re-visit soon and finalise the plan of action with PEDO for implementation of hydropower projects in KP.
