Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has released 60,000 cusecs of water from Mangla Dam for irrigation and hydel power generation on Thursday after month long closure of the irrigation canals across the country. Punjab irrigation engineers told Business Recorder that there is more water in the dams than needed for irrigating Rabi crops till April. All eight irrigation regions in the provinces have been advised to draw as much water as required for maturing the crops including wheat, oil seeds, grams, maize, vegetables and fodder for the livestock and fruit orchards.
