Pakistan Railways will generate over Rs 12 billion revenue through freight trains during the current financial year. According to a senior Railways official, the organisation will cross the set revenue generation targets in freight sector this year.
The fast cargo train will also run between Karachi and Rawalpindi to help generate more revenue. Pakistan Railways has allocated around 85 to 95 locomotives for freight trains.
He said that 55 locomotives were scheduled to arrive soon from the United States and would be attached with freight trains.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways is planning to engage private sector for running the passenger trains, which were not generating enough revenue. Official sources said the move would not affect service of any employee.
