Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) have seized sizeable quantity of arms and ammunition near Super Highway Check Post here. A PCG statement said on Friday that on receipt of a credible intelligence regarding smuggling attempt of arms and ammunition through Super Highway, special mobile teams were constituted for snap checking. It said that during the process, a suspected vehicle was noticed and PCG officials chased it but the driver managed to flee taking advantage of heavy flow of traffic on Super Highway, darkness and dense vegetation in the area, abandoning a fertiliser sack on the roadside.
Upon search the PCG officials recovered seven pistols of 30 bore, two repeaters of 12 bore and 300 rounds of different calibres from the sack. The statement said that the confiscated consignment was likely to be used in Karachi city for `different terrorist activities which was pre-empted due to timely action by PCG officials'. Further investigations and legal proceedings are underway, the PCG statement added.
