A new political party named as Pakistan Freedom Movement (PFM) was launched here on Saturday. Announcing this at a news conference, PFM's chairman Haroon Khawaja said that his party would initially focus its attention on 14 key areas to put the country on the track of prosperity and development.
The key areas, he added, include Pakistan civil service, justice system, national budget, population growth, devolution of power to local government bodies, housing, markets, homeland security, education & skills development, health & social safety, water & power, food & agriculture, industry & commerce, information, communication technology, transport and infrastructure.
"PFM is a political party registered under the 'Political Parties Act 2002' and it will act as a catalyst to help resolve the problems being faced by the country," he said, adding the party's leadership comprising respected members of the civil society have developed expertise in various fields.
Elaborating, Haroon said that the party's plan for the country's prosperity has been developed indigenously in line with success models of the world. "Our party's plan revolves around ordinary citizens of Pakistan and then zooms out to ensure that decisions taken in Islamabad have a direct and positive impact on their lives," he added. Haroon advocated the need for having a small but efficient government with 16 ministries to be organised in five clusters (governance, health & social safety, education, energy & agriculture and economic development)
Unfolding the details of the party's manifesto, he said that women shall be given due representation in all economic activities and the nation shall be united by implementing provincial autonomy as enshrined in the 1973 Constitution. Moreover, the party will ensure across the board accountability, evolve an independent foreign policy and strive for independent judiciary and freedom of the media, etc, he added.
