New Apple app lets composers preserve instant song ideas

22 Feb, 2016

A new iOS app from Apple allows tyro songwriters and composers to capture and organise guitar riffs and other new musical ideas. The free app called Music Memos records voices and instruments in uncompressed audio using the iPhone's built-in microphone. The recordings are then stored in a library. The app automatically analyses the music, displaying notations and suggesting chord names. It even adapts the drum and bass performances to match the chords.
The resulting tracks can also be exported to the GarageBand or Logic Pro X audio programmes on a Mac for further audio-editing work, they can be stored in the iCloud Drive for syncing across iOS devices.
