Residents of Orangi Town's Islam Chowk on Sunday gave a thrashing to members of Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) when they raided a house in the locality to arrest a person. According to police, a number of officials of the raiding party were in civvies.
Giving details of the incident, SHO Pakistan Bazaar police station, Sarfraz, told Business Recorder that when a nine-member ACLC team of Jamshed Quarters conducted a raid on the house of one Imran in Islam Chowk, dozens of area residents, who gathered there, termed the raid `illegal' and gave a thrashing to the ACLC personnel. The raid was conducted under the supervision of ACLC's ASI, Pangal Khan, in a police van.
"As soon as we got the news, we reached the scene of the incident and managed to take ACLC team members in our custody," the SHO said, adding that "the raid in civvies was against the directives of IGP, Sindh".
Though the initial reports suggested that the ACLC team had conducted the raid to arrest a man, identified as Imran, the SHO refused to divulge into details.
"All the nine men have been arrested and an FIR has been lodged against them," the SHO added.
