President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday congratulated Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy on winning her second Oscar award. The President said that Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has highlighted an important social issue in her film for which she deserves congratulation. The President said Sharmeen's achievement is a source of pride and honour for the country.
The President stated that apart from protecting women rights, there was also a need to launch campaigns for promoting education and eradicating the menace of corruption. The President hoped that talented and creative artists of the country would pay their attention toward these issues as well.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif congratulated Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy on winning the Oscar's Award for the second time for her documentary "A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness." Lauding the efforts of Ms Sharmeen, the Prime Minister said that there was no place for killing in the name of honour in Islam. The Prime Minister said his government was in the process of legislating to stop such brutal and inhumane acts in the name of honour. "Women like Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy are not only a pride for the Pakistani Nation but are also a significant contribution to the society."
