Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Saturday said that PML-N led government was making adequate efforts for reducing electricity loadshedding in the country and there would be a visible reduction in electricity loadshedding by 2018. Addressing the members of District Bar Association, he said the government was mobilising all available resources and channels for getting rid of the menace of loadshedding by initiating various projects of electricity generation and hopefully the government would overcome the problem.
Asif said the government was committed to provide maximum electricity to the industrial sector of the country enabling it to keep production wheel in full motion, adding there was a visible reduction in loadshedding as compared to previous years in the country. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will perform foundation stone laying ceremony of mega project of Sialkot-Lahore motorway in near future, he disclosed.
Asif said the proposed motorway project would help in linking remote areas along with its track and reduced the distance between Sialkot-Lahore as well as that mega project would not only ensure fast inter-city travelling facility while the project would also provide economic boom as well as generate employment opportunities in the region. The Minister further stated the government was making adequate efforts for improving the means of communication across the country with the concept for linking backwards areas with developed parts of the country aimed at changing life-style and banishing the backwardness. The linking remote areas with developed areas would bring revolutionary life style and open new era of development and prosperity, he added.
The completion of that mega project would open new vista of development, prosperity as well as generate employment opportunities in the region and help in breaking the cycle of rural poverty, Asif said. Asif further stated that government had focused its attention on bringing economic stability and to put the country on right track. The economic stability had become more vital at that juncture for making stable for bringing prosperity and to boost development process in the country, he said.
On this occasion, the Minister handed over cheque amounting to Rs 5 million to President District Bar Association for the purchase of library books. Later, the Defence Minister performed foundation stone laying ceremony of the construction of a new Nullah costing Rs 394.111 million at Sublime Chowk. The aim of construction of this Nullah was to cope with the flood water and channelising the sewerage water, he said.
