Setting up of expo centre on the cards

Business community of Sialkot is actively considering establishing Expo Centre in this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry of the country. Sources in Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) told Business Recorder on Sunday that efforts were being made for obtaining sufficient funds from Export Development Fund (EDF) for the execution of the mega project of Expo Centre.
The basic concept of setting up Expo Centre was to hold international and national trade exhibitions and fairs as well as single country exhibition. Through export, Sialkot-based small and medium industries are earning foreign exchange amounting over two billion US dollars yearly and strengthening the national exchequer.
Sialkot-made footballs, field hockey sticks, cricket gear and boxing gloves were used in international games including the Olympics and World Cups. The distinction of Sialkot that the hand-stitched soccer balls made here are used in international matches.
