Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that three departments namely health, education and local bodies are most important and that if they improve their performance most of the public grievances would be redressed automatically. This he said on Sunday while talking to doctors and para-medical staff during the last leg of his surprise visit of Civil Hospital Khairpur and Kausar Mother & Child Hospital Khairpur, says a statement issued here on Sunday.
It said that the CM during his surprise visit to Civil Hospital Khairpur found that some of the doctors absent from their duties. There was no appropriate arrangement of cleanliness of the wards and corridors.
He visited Ortho ward and inquired about the health of the patients and also asked the patients if the in-charge of the ward, Dr Nazar Shah had visited them, the patients' reply was in negative.
On this, the CM expressed his displeasure and ordered suspension of Dr Nazar Shah's services with immediate effect.
"How much it is painful to see that the people of this noble profession have turned to be irrelevant and irresponsible," he said and added that he was working hard to develop health facilities all over Sindh but some `unprofessional doctors' obstructing his efforts.
Qaim Ali Shah visited different wards of the hospital and asked the patients and their attendants whether they were being provided with medicines free of cost or not. Their reply was in affirmative but they complained about cleanliness of the wards and hospital.
On this the CM asked the medical superintendent that where was Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Aziz Soomro.
The medical superintendent said that he was not on duty. The CM also ordered to place his services under suspension.
The Chief Minister also visited the under construction eight blocks of the hospital. The Project Director District Headquarter Hospital (DHQs) & Taluka Headquarter Hospitals (THQs) Dr Suresh briefed the chief minister about the hospital.
Dr Suresh said that the Khairpur Civil Hospital which the CM has turned into a teaching hospital of Khairpur Medical College spreads over 19 acres. It is an Rs1.6 billion project and work on its five blocks has been completed.
He further said that the remaining three blocks include kitchen, cafeteria, morgue house, Musafer Khana, laundry, boundary wall and landscaping where work was in progress.
Qaim Ali Shah said that the hospital project has some design faults. Its corridors are too wide while its wards are congested. He directed the architect of the project to make necessary amendments in the design and make the wards wide enough. "No doubt, it is an airy hospital with proper wind crossing arrangement which keeps the hospital cool but congestion in the wards causes suffocation. It is not good for patients, he observed.
He directed the architect of the project to improve the design within the approved cost and wide the wards properly. "The changes in its design must be done in consultation with commissioner Sukkur, DC Khairpur and Medical Superintendent of the hospital.
He directed the PD to complete the project before June 2016 and asked him how many other DHQs he would hand over to the health department. On this the PD Dr Suresh said that DHQs Badin, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Naushehro feroze, Sanghar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and Kotri would be completed by June 2016 at a cost of around Rs2 billion.
The Chief Minister also visited under construction TB hospital with the teaching hospital area and urged the architect to keep the `Isolation Wards' airy and pleasant.
