World social work day marked at SU

Department of Social Work, University of Sindh on Tuesday celebrated World Social Work Day at Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium. The event presided by Dean Social Sciences Professor Dr Nagina Parveen was attended by Chairman Social Work, Professor Sayed Abbas Ali Shah, Professor Qalandar Shah Lakiyari, Regional Head SPO Hyderabad,
Mustafa Baloch and Chairman Youth Lead Peace, Mitharam Parmar were the guests of the event.
Professor Dr Nagina Parveen said that social work is not all about the welfare but it is about scientific approaches of dealing with the social issues.
She further said, "Today, we need the committed and sincere social worker who can really contribute to social development and social change process."
Professor Qalandar Shah Lakyari shared the history of social work in Pakistan quoting different local examples of the individual who have contributed to the society.
Regional Head SPO Hyderabad, Mustafa Baloch talked about the issues of early marriages.
He also described the important role of social worker to deal with such issues. Chairman Youth Lead Peace, Mitharam Parmar that the youth is only hope for social development and change in society who can contribute to the promotion of education, peace, human rights and positivity in the society.
On the occasion, the students of Social Work Department played a theatre on Human Rights Issues.
Professor Waheed Akbar Khasekli, Lecturer Sultan Panhwar, Mehak Fatima and Ayaz Rajar also shared their views with the students.
