Chief Secretary Sindh has constituted a committee to help rehabilitate the export-oriented seafood auction halls mainly K-I and K-III and other ancillary facilities at Karachi fish harbour.
The committee will have Managing Director, Karachi Fish Harbour Authority (KFHA) as chairman, Managing Director Marine Fisheries Department (MFD), Director General Fisheries and Director Engineering, KFHA as members with Manager Accounts Fishermen Co-operative Society (FCS) as member secretary.
The committee will set up to help rehabilitate and restore K-I and K-III seafood export halls, officials told Business Recorder on Thursday, suggesting that it would also oversee Fishermen Co-operative Society (FCS) financial affairs till the society had its board of directors to function.
According to the committee tasks, the MD of the MFD has the responsibility to identify the repair works required to make the auction halls and other main facilities clean to the EU's hygienic standards. The cost estimate for revamping of halls and other facilities will be submitted by Director Engineering, KFHA to the very committee.
"The expenditure will be incurred in accordance with Rules of FCS and proper record will be maintained by the Manager FCS for audit and other purposes," according to a notification of the Sindh government, adding that "After constitution of board of directors of FCS the committee will be dissolved and remaining amount in the account will be utilised by FCS".
