The Karachi Port handled 272,960 tonnes of cargo comprising 204,042 tonnes of import cargo and 68,918 tonnes of export cargo including 5,857 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 204,042 tonnes comprised of 77,420 tonnes of containerised cargo; 21,425 tonnes of general cargo; 59,255 tonnes of bulk cargo: 40,910 tonnes of coal; 11,357 tonnes of SB meal; 6,988 tonnes of fertiliser and 45,942 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 68,918 tonnes comprised of 50,693 tonnes of containerised cargo; 325 tonnes of general cargo and 17,900 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,857 containers comprising of 2,021 containers import and 3,836 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. The break-up of imported containers shows 832 of 20's and 553 of 40's loaded while 1 of 20's and 41 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,415 of 20's and 517 of 40's loaded containers while 349 of 20's and 519 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were nine ships namely Kota Lembah, APL Japan, Fowairet, Hong Hai-6 MT Karachi, Chem Lyra, Al Mahboobah, Ikan Jubal and Dato Succes carrying containers, oil tankers, chemical, DAP and steel respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. Hanjin Scarlet, X-Press Euphrates, CSC Frinndship, Scot Stuttgart, Aliki Perrotis, Alam Madu and Shan Dong carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were three ships namely Hanjin Scarlet, Kota Kasturi and Scot Stuttgart carrying containers and oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Monday while another ship namely Aliki Perrotis carrying coal is expected to sail on Tuesday. There were four vessel viz. Hansa Neuburg, New Jersey Trader, OOCL California and Chemstar Jewel carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Monday while five vessels viz. Ever Unique, Oriental Protea, Omera Queen, Nantong-K and Mandarin Ocean carrying containers, oil tankers and steel respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
